Responsible, Respectful, Ready to Learn, Safe

Monday, January 2nd, is no school.

VEEP was here working on energy literacy, teaching in-class workshops and green energy usage on Wednesday the 7th.  From Mickey: Julian Leon was here again from the Vermont Energy Education Program (VEEP) this past week.  He spent time in both the classrooms working with the students on concepts related to electricity.  He was able to come again for free because we agreed to participate in the Efficiency Vermont LED workshop.  This experience involves the students doing some work at home to replace some of the less efficient light bulbs in your homes.  All the students will be coming home with a worksheet that must be filled out in conjunction with replacing some outdated incandescent bulbs at your homes.  Further explanation will be coming home when we actually receive the bulbs here at school.  Some students should be eligible for up to four free LED bulbs to install in your house!  Stay tuned to the newsletter for more information to come.

Our Holiday Concert is Monday, December 12 at 6:30. Parents, if you would like to bring juice, cookies or fruit, that would be great. In case of a snow day on Monday, the concert will be the next night (Tuesday).

Parents, please let Mrs. Kehoe know if you did not receive the envelope last Friday with the name they drew for the gift exchange.  Thank you.

The joint chorus concert is at Leland and Gray on Wednesday, December 14 at 7:00 PM.  Rehearsal is in the L&G gym on Wednesday, December 14th, from 3:30-4:30.  Concert attire is:  white shirt/blouse and black or dark blue pants/skirt.  The thrift shop can be a great source for these items if you don’t already own them!

Friday, December 16, we will go by bus to Valley Cares to sing to the residents. Important for parents on the South End: Your kids will be home before three, coming up with the High Schoolers from Leland and Gray. We will remind you again.

This year, the Windham Congregational Church has invited the Chorus to sing at their holiday service on Sunday, December 18 at 6:00.  They will be singing the same music they have been preparing for the District Chorus Winter Concert and our school concert.  The service will begin at 6:00, and the Chorus will be singing at about 6:10.  The whole service (music and readings, etc.) will take around an hour. If you can sing but need to leave afterwards, you’ll be finished by around 6:20 or so.  See you there.

December 21 will be a busy day. We will go to Vermont Academy for skating, back in time for lunch, a short recess and then to the fashioning of holiday crafts. We will have our gift exchange the last half hour of school.

Parents, the week of the 19th we will skip Tuesday lunch and have it instead when they get back from skating on Wednesday. They will be starved after all that exercise.  The thought is to have pasta and perhaps baked apples.    Parents are welcome to go skating with us.

On Monday the 6th, Roger and Linda Sheehan, (Abenaki Indians) who live in Jamaica, came to visit the Windham School. Roger sang and told stories, and Linda showed us the beautiful bead work she was doing. We also saw lots of really neat items made and used by Native Americans, including brain tanned leather bags beaded with porcupine quills, snow snakes and tools.

Coming home today is the slip for skating. Let us know as soon as possible if your child needs skates.

Beth and Pete McDonald will be having their Christmas party on December 17th any time after 6pm. Potluck, children encouraged to bring uke's to play some music, Adults also!  Hope you can make it. Love, the McDonald's
