Habits of Mind: “Safe, Responsible, Respectful, Ready to Learn”

Act 46 Informational Meeting at Windham Elementary at 6:00pm on February 20, 2017

One more week of school and then vacation the week of February 20th.

The Windham School was one of only a small handful of schools in Vermont to participate in the Vermont Energy Education Program (VEEP) Change a Light Program.  This program involved a VEEP educator coming to our school to teach the students about energy efficiency for a couple hours with many great hands on experiences.  We then were given two boxes of brand new LED light bulbs for the Change a Light Portion of the experience.  Students were given two free light bulbs to replace old incandescent bulbs at their homes.  If they filled out the related worksheet about other bulbs at home that needed replacing and were used at least 365 hours per year, they were given two more light bulbs.

MAPS testing has been going well this week. It was scheduled so it would be done before February vacation if there were snow days, illness or absences.

We have sent home a flyer for the Community Soup Night on Wednesday February 15.

Don’t forget the Thai dinner at the Townshend Town Hall this Saturday starting at 5:30.

The cross country skiers did not go to Grafton this week. They stayed here and did symmetrical cutting. When lunch was over they made pretzels from scratch. Next was outside cross country skiing out back, which by then was fairly good, the sun having softened it up a little. Back in to form the dough and bake.

Poetry Night is next Friday, February 17 at 6:30pm. The children are doing a genre study unit on poetry right now and are encouraged to read a poem at Poetry Night if you can make it. It is pizza night too! Pizza starts at 5PM.

We are still enjoying wonderful hot lunches from the West River Community Project café.
