“Safe, Responsible, Respectful, Ready to Learn”

February vacation starts Monday, February 16.

Our snow banks are incredibly high and the snow is deep. We have kids who like to get as far out in the field as they can with the snow up to their waists. Others are climbing on or sliding off the banks. With the cold weather projected for next week the banks will probably be just as high when they get back from vacation.

The way Windham school does valentines is a creative time for students. Thinking of a picture to draw and a sentence or two to go with it. There are a few pensive moments while they try to put it all together in their mind before putting it to paper.

Tomorrow night, Friday the 13th, there will be a potluck and square/contra dance at the school. Dinner starts at 5:30 and dancing will be from 6:30 to 8:00. Sally and Michael will be doing the music and calling. There will be a bake sale to buy goodies for your sweetie for Saturday, and a “cakewalk” for the kids.

Hot lunches: it occurred to me that with all the good food the parents serve us on Fridays there is no craving for a sweet dessert. Last Friday, there was macaroni and cheese, carrot sticks in a cup with ranch dressing and kiwi and grapes. The seconds and thirds the kids go back for are the fruit and vegetables, especially when we have cantaloupe, grapes, carrots, cucumber slices. These kids eat good food when it is available.

Speaking of lunches, one of the girls did not have her lunch bag when she came to school. Her lunch was delivered via Kubota tractor by her neighbor. Where else but in Vermont would this happen?

Thanks parents for your flexibility, and commitment to getting your kids to school, when the bus was out of commission. We hope it will be running well for the rest of the year.
