Habits of Mind: “Safe, Responsible, Respectful, Ready to learn”

No school on Tuesday, Town Meeting Day.

Hot Lunch next week will be on Thursday, since we are not here on Tuesday.

Ukulele next week in on Thursday only as Tuesday is Town Meeting Day. All ukulele players can attend Thursday’s lesson. If you can bring your own instrument that will be helpful so we can be sure everybody has one to play.

Art at the barn was another week grabbing all the kid’s attention. The Monday before vacation all of them worked on two pieces of clay. That was then air dried for a week and then fired. When we arrived on Monday, each child’s board with their sculpted clay was brought to their spot at the table. Now they were ready to paint.  This is a very well run art day.  The paint bottles, paint cups, brushes, wet sponges, everything was waiting. No one rushed. They took their time choosing their colors and no one rushed to get the job done. Next Monday will be fun to watch their faces when their boards are given to them with the finished glaze. The colors will have changed dramatically and they will be amazed. Clay is therapeutic for everyone, building sensory development along with motor skills in a play based learning.  During Art next week kids will finish glazing their own work, then paint a pre-made clay plate. If there is quiet time at home this weekend, you might suggest they practice their design for the plate.

We will be having the kids pick out their favorite art pieces and have an evening art show toward the end of the school year.

Awesome lunch this week. Chicken tacos, with rice, fresh made salsa, lettuce, sour cream, cheese, and lettuce. Blood oranges that were so good you had to eat more than one. Carrot sticks and ranch.  Many seconds and some even had thirds! Thanks to Andy from the West Townshend Café who was head chef for this meal.
