Habits of Mind: “Safe, Responsible, Respectful, Ready to learn”

No school on Monday, January 16 for Martin Luther King Day.

No school on Monday and Tuesday, January 23, and 24.

The 23rd is an in-service day to prepare report cards.

The 24th is a district wide development day at the Career Center.

Everyone came back refreshed after their Monday holiday. A good share of them went tubing at Magic on Friday after school, then on to the Martin Luther King evening at the bottom of the hill. Saturday night was the Harlem globetrotters at Leland and Gray.

The school skiing program really pulls students together. They enjoy their time together on the slopes, skiing together, competing to a small degree to see who can do the highest hill, jump the farthest, not fall, this is a great addition to the winter. This Wednesday since Grafton had not groomed the cross country kids went to Sally’s to ski in their huge back field and on trails in the woods.

The new bus is running well. The first day of riding on the bus we talked to the students at All School meeting about using seat belts. That is fine with them and they are fascinated by the fact that Kord has a mini loudspeaker if he wants to speak to them. The other day walking by the bus  I could hear something running on the bus. Kord said the bus has a programmable pre-heating system that starts an hour ahead of the morning and the afternoon run.

Tuesday lunch was delicious. Lunch again came from West Townshend community kitchen. Two large pans with a wonderful casserole combination of chicken, black beans, cilantro, onions, and tomatoes layered on corn tortillas topped by cheese. Another large salad this week. There is such an amount of food that we can heat it up and eat it a second time. That may be the way they plan their menu. That whatever food they make will be fine warmed up again. (The salad does not last well overnight, so we are going to ask for a smaller one).
