Habits of Mind: “Safe, Responsible, Respectful, Ready to Learn”

So does everyone like the new Snow Phone Robo-calls??? I do.

Everyone seemed happy to be back to school with their buddies.

Next Wednesday is the first day of winter sports. It looks like the weather is going to warm up enough for the outdoor sports. Snacks and water are important.  They will eat before they leave for skiing, but will probably need some extra food in their lunch box for the ride home.

Days from school this monthMonday January 15 for Martin Luther King Day

Monday, January 22, Teacher Report Card Day

The kindergartners will be going to the Grafton Nature Museum next Friday for a winter program about how animals survive during winter time.  They will be snowshoeing that day.  The nature museum provides the snow shoes.

One of the better gym accessories we had here was the volley ball net that Ms. West left here for a month. (She took it back).  Whenever we had inside recess this was the main attraction. The school owns five large-like beach balls (Claudia donated three of them) and with a hit from a balled up fist they really zip right over the net. This is something the little guys can handle and the big kids are good about including them. For an easy half hour this occupies everyone.

The skating before vacation at Vermont Academy was cold but great and the zamboni had just finished the ice when we got there. If the kids were unsure about their proficiency they would glide/skate/stumble around holding onto stacked milk crates. Many were skating without assistance by the end of the skating session. One of the boys made a snow angel every time he fell on the ice. (He had at least eight of them). I am sure there were some really tired kids that afternoon.   They skated hard for an hour. No one sat out, they just kept on skating. Then there were plenty of contributed snacks and apple juice to consume just before we left.

Looks like next week we will have a real heat wave.   Twenty above sounds warm nowadays.
