“Safe, Responsible, Respectful, Ready to Learn”

Thanks to family and community members for supporting our school at Town Meeting. Below is something different for our newsletter this week.

We have included a letter from Lisa Beshay.  Alex Beshay, last year’s sixth grade graduate has returned with his family from Utah. A tribute to Alex and a thank you to our music teacher, Kate Ullman. Below is a case of a great amount of work between our music teacher, Kate Ullman and Alex and his family.

Lisa writes: Alex has just returned from the 2015 ACDA conference, in Salt Lake City. Last year, he was accepted into the OAKE national youth honor choir.  He spent several days learning and singing in Atlanta, GA with other young singers from all over the country. He said it was the best experience of his life...truly life-changing for him. Last fall, he auditioned for both US national honor choirs...OAKE and ACDA. He was hoping that, by auditioning for both, he would be accepted into one...but to his surprise, he was accepted into both! A true honor, indeed. What an amazing opportunity this has been for Alex. Last week, in Salt Lake City, he spent 4 very intense days and nights rehearsing and performing with the ACDA middle school boys honor choir. Thanks to Mrs. Ullman, who worked so hard to help Alex learn his music before his trip, he felt comfortable singing each piece on the first day of rehearsals. The singers were led by world-famous conductor and composer, Bob Chilcott. They were also introduced to 2 other composers of the music they were singing, which was very exciting. To add to their excitement, the internationally renowned King Singers put on a small, private concert for the boys choir, followed by a question and answer session. Also, one evening, after the 2nd of 3 performances, the United States Navy's Singing Sergeants performed for the boys and their families. What a show! The boys' final performance was at the LDS Conference center, with over 20,000 people in attendance...a sold out show! They performed with all of the honor choirs, (children's choir, middle school girls choir, and high school/adult choir) the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and a few well-known musical personalities, including two time Grammy Award winning singer, Sylvia McNair and the charismatic stage actor/singer, Santino Fontana. It was an experience of a lifetime for these young singers. Later this month, Alex will be traveling to Minneapolis to sing in the OAKE national youth choir. Once again, Kate Ullman will play a key role in helping Alex prepare for the upcoming conference, by helping him learn his music. Without Kate, none of this would be possible, and Alex is infinitely grateful for all her time and help. We are so very lucky to have such an amazing music teacher here at WES. If your child is interested in singing, and would enjoy an experience such as this, I strongly urge you to talk to Kate Ullman about this opportunity.
