Windham Elementary School Newsletter

May 10, 2013

“Safe, Responsible, Respectful, Ready to learn”

Please read our attachment about going fishing next week.

Last week's bake sale brought in $153.  Good job everyone for the baking, cleaning up  and selling.  Thank you Lisa and family for organizing and letting us use your store to sell from.

Last week we wrote we might be attending a movie as a  school wide reward for being safe. After putting together a calender for the rest of the year, we decided to go  swimming, but going to the movie as well is too much. As you will see when you receive your calendar, the school days are packed through the end of the year.

Mr. PJ's class has started MAPS testing and so far scores have been high.

Sally's class made a trip to Lee Marinoff's farm just down the road from the school.  We saw a cow and  a one year old calf, one llama who was preparing to spit when he flattened his ears. Apparently he likes children  and saves the flattened ears for adults. We saw turkey eggs in an incubator, with one starting to hatch. There were numerous chickens all over the farm, many lambs and their moms. The kids were introduced to a milking machine, baby turkeys under a warming light and got to hold baby chicks. They had a tour through the green house, a marvelous place. Then we went to the fields, to check out the ponds, vegetable garden, fruit trees and berry bushes and solar panels. There was an interesting small garden of medicinal berry bushes. The kids had a picnic lunch and came back to school.

Our pasta supper was fun and per usual the parents and students did a fantastic job.  This is the kind of event that goes extremely well because of  participation from adults and kids. It is fun to have dinner with neighbors and friends  whom you do not otherwise have time to visit.

There are several attachments with this newsletter.  A calendar of events through the end of this school year, a notice about choir from Ms. Ullman, a paper about ticks,  the “Let's go Fishing” paper and a sheet about wearing helmets when trail riding .

Everyone have a great weekend and wonderful Mothers Day.
