Habits of Mind: “Safe, Responsible, Respectful, Ready to Learn”

Earlier this week we sent a reminder from Kate about the Leland Gray concert next week. Practice is Monday, 5/15 from 3:30 lasting until 4:30. The concert is Tuesday, 5/15 at 7:00

Kate Ullman, our music teacher asked us put in the newsletter: Two of our sixth graders, Lillie Beshay and Mary McDonald, participated in the VT-ACDA Honor Choir Festival for 6th-9th graders this past weekend in Burlington.  [Windham alumnus Alex Beshay also participated.]  They spent many hours perfecting music on Friday and Saturday that they had already spent much time learning after school and on weekends.  The girls were wonderful representatives of Windham School in their hard work, comportment, and striving for excellence. The festival culminated in a fabulous concert Saturday afternoon. Congratulations to them!

Tuesday at Meadows Bee Farm the sheep shearer was there for the shearing. When she arrived at ten, the whole school went down to watch for a short time.  Between the new calves, the peacock strutting his colors, the baby lambs tearing around and crying for mom, the turkey gobbling, the roosters spatting there was plenty to see.    Per usual the kids that did not want to go to the farm, were the ones who complained about having to come back to school.

Thursday night was fun. With full school participation by all the kids, they turned out an excellent history book. We have some talented poets, writers and artists. They each picked an area of history to write about, and did a good amount of in-depth studying before they wrote about it.

Thanks go out to the folks in the community who helped make this unit that combined art with local history such a success. Also thank to everyone who came last night and brought such delicious food.

For anyone who does not know the address for the new Windham website here it is: townofwindhamvt.comVance Bell has put a copy of the students’ Windham History Project on the Windham website. To find it look under LOCAL AND TOWN HISTORY on the left side.   It is under Town History.

Not really sure who is interested. We sent home a flyer announcing a raffle to win two tickets to a Baltimore Orioles game on August 25th.

Touch A Truck is at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital parking lot on Saturday, May 13, from 9:00 to 1:00 PM. $5 for ages 2-12, all others by donation.  $15 for families with 3+ children.

Saturday, JUNE 3rd the upper class students will be performing at the Weston Playhouse. They started writing the play this week and over the next four weeks they will be practicing.

Our Spring Concert will be Monday, June 5th at 6:30

Graduation is June 15th. Last day of school is Monday, June 19
