Windham Elementary School Newsletter

Nov. 22, 2013

Safe, Responsible, Respectful, Ready to learn”

Make sure you remember there are only two days of school next week. Thanksgiving is here already.

Thursday, December 12, our Parent Group will be having a Spaghetti dinner with an art and craft show following. Our Parent group is working hard to make their December 12th Art Gala fundraiser a successful evening. They are doing four afternoons of unique art work to get ready for it. This past Thursday, Antje taught how to make Zentangles, creating beautiful images from repetitive patterns. It was easy to learn and easy to do. Creating Zentangle art is a fun and lighthearted way to relax and shift your focus and perspective, a little like knitting, taking your mind off to a totally different level.

At the time we were writing the newsletter, we were not sure what Friday's craft would be. If you did not make either one of these, Thursday, Dec 5th and Friday the 6th will be the other two craft days. This is a fun time to learn something new and be a part of the Art and Craft show. Please send in a note if your child wants to stay after school for these activities

The entire school is studying Native Americans. Alan Partridge has his tipi up out back of the school and Thursday afternoon there was a fire in the tepee, giving the kids an idea of what it was like with a fire inside. The older kids are helping the younger ones. They are learning how native Americans built shelters, kept warm, protected themselves, what games they played, collected food and water, and how they traveled from one place to another.

Next Tuesday we plan to cook some cornbread over the fire in the tipi. Some children have indicated that they might be able to bring some venison for us to cook. If that is true, we would welcome the chance to cook and sample one of the staples of the North East woodland Indian diet. Thanks.

We (the Parents Group) are selling wreaths and paper white bulbs this year to benefit the Windham Elementary school.  Please place your orders (with money included) by Tuesday November 26th so the wreaths can be made and ready by the first week of December. Wreaths handmade fresh by the Newfane  nursery. These make great gifts and decorations.

Wreaths (undecorated) $15.00 Paper white bulbs (clusters of 5) $6.00

Thanks for your support !
