“Safety, Responsible, Respectful, Ready to learn”

Attention drivers” The issue of cars pulling up in front of the school and idling was brought to the school board's attention at the board meeting this past Monday. It has been the school's policy to not have vehicles driving in front of the school during school hours. Please be aware that the orange cones are set up as a reminder for cars to not be moving into this area.  Also, it would be best for cars to not be left idling in areas where the kids will be walking directly past them. The carbon monoxide in the exhaust is not healthy for anyone, especially young children. If you feel the need to leave your car running for whatever reason, please park over near the cemetery so as not to expose the children to these harmful fumes. We strive to have the school be a safe and healthy place for all. Thank you.

A reminder that  it is now decidedly cold in the mornings during first recess. Usually the sun is not up yet, and the kids have a tendency to  stand around and shiver.  We constantly remind them to wear hats and gloves, but coming out of a warm home each morning they tend to forget that

advice. Please remind them.

The  highlighted line above  in the heading is the motto the school is utilizing this year. Students receive  beads for behaving responsibly, being respectful, ready to learn and being safe. They slide them onto their pipe cleaners until they have accumulated ten, at which time they are strung with others already earned. The 1400 beads they previously accumulated won them the day of swimming, eating pizza's, desserts and an afternoon of crafts. Most of our students can recite the four parts so the slogan. By employing  this we are trying to communicate high expectations, inspire students to feel good about themselves, and to motivate  positive student behavior. The students enjoy earning beads and like the satisfaction  of behaving positively.

Attached to this weeks newsletter is a revised Snow Emergency Phone List. If you have any changes or additions please notify the school.  Thank you.

This is a note about the formation of a parents group. If anyone is interested let us know at the school and we can schedule a meeting. We would like to provide an after school program, perhaps for fund raising or just letting the kids play ball, board games, perhaps cook desserts???Each parent probably has a specialty they could contribute.

Harvest dinner and dance at the Windham Congregational Church at 5:00 o'clock this Saturday, Nov. 10th . This is a fine ham dinner with scalloped potatoes, squash, sweet bread, rolls, and many yummy desserts.  After dinner there is square dancing.  Bring friends and family and join us.

Preschool parents-we are not doing preschool conferences at this date, but will contact you by the end of the month to set up a time when we can meet.
