Habits of Mind: “Safe, Responsible, Respectful, Ready to Learn”

Earth Day & Green-Up Day

Reminder that May 1st is Green-Up Day here in Vermont. The Town Hall has bags out now, or you can pick them up at 9 AM on Saturday. Leave full bags along the roadsides for pick-up. This week, we focused on Earth Day and the 3 R’s - Reduce, Reuse and Recycling. Our friend the Lorax made an appearance to remind the students about why taking care of our planet is important. “UNLESS someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.” - The Lorax

Stratton Foundation - Kicks4VTKids

A huge thank you to the Stratton Foundation for their Kicks4Kids program. Thanks to some amazing donors, and their partnership with Shoes That Fit and Bombas, our students were able to receive a new pair of sneakers and socks to welcome the Spring season. We had a few students that grew a bit from the initial measurements, but by mid-May everyone should be enjoying their new sneakers!

Sewing Badge Ceremony

On April 27th, each student received their Level #1 Sewing Badge. Each student had to fill out their sheets by circling all the skills and projects they had completed as part of the badge. They then presented their sheet and were then handed their badges. The students are now excited to start their next badge that will focus on herbal medicine. A huge thank you to Meadows Bee Farm for thinking of us and allowing our students to fill their winter months with this wonderful badge!

Outdoor Learning, Dandelions and Acorn Seeds

Outdoor learning resumed after April vacation with Ms. Sally and Mr. B once the weather cooperated. The shelter and surrounding area were cleaned, signs of Spring were witnessed and recorded in their nature notebooks and they built a fire pit and were able to cook sausages and apples to enjoy. Making dandelion crowns ended a very enjoyable day. Some of our acorn seeds that we planted 20 days ago are starting to show their sprouts!

New Playground!

Drumroll please! Mickey Parker-Jennings would like to announce that the Windham Elementary School will be receiving a new playground for the 2021-2022 school year! With the assistance of REAP grant funds, he has been able to work with BCI Burke Company to come up with the below playground design. Groundwork will begin the day after school gets out on June 15th to prepare the site. Anyone that has access to any large equipment such as an excavator, bulldozer, backhoe, or dump truck and can help with this process of removing the old equipment and preparing the grounds for installation, please contact Mickey at his email address - or by calling the school directly at 802-874-4159.
