Habits of Mind: “Safe, Responsible, Respectful, Ready to Learn”

Slip Sliding Safety Service

  • Slip Sliding Safety Service was sighted keeping our roads safe! Jack Thurston from NBC 10 Boston tweeted about following the Windham Elementary School’s VTrans plow truck during the Wednesday morning ice storm as it was treating the roads from the ice storm. VTrans sent us the tweet in case we had not seen it and we have included it below to share with our WES families.

Monday

  • Holiday Cheer Day

  • Brattleboro Museum and Arts Center. The upper grade class went back to the BMAC Monday to view the new exhibits. One exhibit was focused on artistic furniture. The students saw many unique examples of furniture that had artistic elements such as wood that was bent with steam. There was also an exhibit with very old artifacts that were reinterpreted using modern glass blowing techniques to recreate the pieces.

  • Sledding on the hill! We were able to finally use the new sledding hill and the students all had such a great time. Thank you to the playground volunteers for making this sledding hill happen!

  • French and Chinese lessons were held in the afternoon with Ron & Michelle Boslun respectively in the afternoon. The students learned numbers, colors and sang some songs in French and learned how to count 1-10 in Chinese as well as a poem. Thank you Ron & Michelle for your time with our students!

  • The students finished their day with Ms. Sally and Ms. Ullman singing and dancing to holiday tunes.

Tuesday

  • Grinch Day

  • The Edgar May trip was a success! This trip was a reward as part of our Positive Behavioral Intervention Supports program (PBIS). WES students earned enough beads through showing one of four main principles in action throughout a school day. The four guiding ideas are being safe, respectful, responsible and ready to learn.
