Windham Elementary School Newsletter
January 10, 2020 Habits of Mind: “Safe, Responsible, Respectful, Ready to Learn”
The first JISP day was a success! Thank you to all the parent volunteers for making this opportunity available to our students. The cross-country skiers had some nice fresh snow at Wild Wings to ski on and Stratton was blessed with some new powder during the day from snow squalls that occurred throughout the afternoon. Snowshoe Invitation Mr. Bailes has invited our school to have a snowshoe hike on his property on Monday, January 27th to the Stone Bridge. He has 25 pairs of snowshoes that our students will be able to use on the hike that day. We are tentatively planning on a hike from 1-2:30 PM if any parents want to join us. Please let Sara know if you or your student need snowshoes so we can make sure we have enough for everyone. Breakfast Items There was a great suggestion to keep a running list of items we need for breakfast for parents to check in on before they head to the grocery store every week. You can find the list by clicking here. I will also include a reminder in the newsletters every week of where to find the list. This week we are in need of: American Cheese Mini Bagels Cream cheese Yogurt Bananas Vanilla Extract for French Toast Juice Frozen strawberries or blueberries for smoothies JISP Reminders: Please send your student with a lunch that does NOT have to be heated on JISP day’s. Stratton skiers/chaperones: Drivers should be at Windham Elementary at 11:30 AM to help transport to the mountain. Wear plenty of layers to stay warm and bring your equipment with you. No JISP on February 5th, 19th and March 4th through the school. Parents, you can still take your kids to the mountain yourselves on these days, we as a school though will not be going because of Stratton Mountain Demo Days and Feb vacation. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Performance Opportunity On Monday, January 20, the West River Community Project, in conjunction with the Jamaica Community Arts Organization, will be holding a celebration of the life and ideas of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. it will be held at the Jamaica Townhall, beginning at 4 pm and be followed by a potluck supper. Windham students have done a wonderful job participating in this event since we started holding it about 4 years ago, singing, playing ukes and reading poems. Sally would like to have our students participate again this year. We will be working on songs and may have time to write some poems, at school. Please let Sally know if your child wants to be part of this event. February Vacation Activity Below flyer is also posted on the bulletin board in the mudroom at the school.
