JISP
Another successful JISP day was had by all this week! A picture of a few of our Stratton JISP kids below, courtesy of Sarah Eastman. Remember that this upcoming Wednesday is a NON-Stratton JISP day, so those that said your student will be going swimming instead Ms. Sara will add you to the reminder email that goes out about what to bring (ie. payment, swim gear, etc).
KIWI Kits, VEEP. New Year’s Resolutions & Sheep Badges Mr. PJ’s KIWI kits this month were based around Rainbow Optics. The kids had a great time experimenting with kits.
Julian Leon returned from VEEP (Vermont Energy Education Program) and worked with the upper grade students and a few younger students. The curriculum focused on wind fundamentals and how you can use wind to do work. This visit the students focused on exploring two different materials that could be used as a sail material. Students then test them, collect data and then discuss how they performed before making revisions on their sails.
The younger students finished their study on New Year’s Day and made their resolutions for the upcoming year. Resolutions included: learning how to skateboard (once they get one for their birthday), making waffles, learning how to cook or swim, turn a backflip and will feed my cat.
Our return to Meadows Bee Farm this week allowed the students to review the work they did before and after winter break on their sheep badges with the farm staff. They then received their Level 1 Sheep Badge at the end of the farm morning.
Kindness Campaign Thank you to Alexis Mialkowski and Bridget Corby for working with our students last Friday as part of the Kindness Campaign that the Parent Group at WES has spearheaded. The first project was the decorating of the kindness signs. This project was finished right before the holiday break and the signs will be hung around the Windham community soon. The second project was tie-dying our Team Kindness T-shirts. The tie-dying happened last Friday (many may have guessed by the dyed hands that came home last week) and then they were washed and handed back to the students on Thursday. We look forward to what the next Kindness Campaign team comes up with next!
