January 29, 2021 Habits of Mind: “Safe, Responsible, Respectful, Ready to Learn”
Electricity Fun!
Here are some pictures of the upper grade students' science activity. The students worked with wires, lights, copper tape, and a power source to create a circuit that could light up any of four different bulbs with shapes to cover them. The students learned that the circuit must be complete in order for the electricity to flow freely and light up the bulbs.
SNOW! The snow piles have grown large enough the students have been using them to create sledding paths during recess.
Tubing Day As part of our Positive Behavioral Intervention Supports program (PBIS), the students earn beads for showing one of our four main principles in action throughout the day. The four guiding ideas are being safe, respectful, responsible, and ready to learn. The students have reached a milestone in the number of beads they have received.
Mr. B has invited the school to go tubing from 1-2:30 PM at Mr. B’s house on Monday, February 8th. Please make sure your child brings their tube to school on Monday, February 8th and that the tube is clearly labeled with their name so we can ensure that the tube gets returned to the correct household. If your child does not have a sledding tube yet, no worries, Mr. B has some being donated by Magic Mountain for them to use and have when the day of tubing is over. Each child should have appropriate sledding attire (mask, hats, mittens, snow pants, winter jacket) to enjoy the afternoon. Tubes can be brought to Mr. B’s over the weekend or can be brought with them to school on Monday at drop off.

Valentine’s Day Treats The students have been asking if they can bring in Valentine’s for their classmates this school year. Unfortunately as with other things that have been changed due to COVID-19, we will have to ask that students NOT bring Valentine cards or candy to give to other students from home. We will still participate in our appreciation week leading up to Valentine’s Day here at school. During the week of Valentine’s Day, the students pick a name of another student each morning and by the end of the day an appreciation card is constructed to be given to the student they chose. The appreciation cards are a way to show thanks and appreciation for a kind gesture, words or friendship that they have shared with one another during the school year so far.
Grafton Trails and Outdoor Center See attached flyer for more information, but students and families of Windham Elementary for the rest of the year can get half off for rentals and passes at Grafton Trails and Outdoor Center.
