Habits of Mind: “Safe, Responsible, Respectful, Ready to Learn”

The first day of Spring arrives Sunday and with that warmer temperatures will return gradually. Please continue to send your students in with snow gear (since we still have snow on the ground) and boots! Mud season will soon be upon us and if the playground remains wet we would like them to wear boots and change into their sneakers for school. Once the “mud season” passes, we can return to wearing sneakers to and from school and they can wear slippers during the class day. Hats and mittens are also important for the morning recess since temps are still chilly first thing in the morning.

Kindergarten Registration

Any child that will be the age of 5 by January 1st, 2023 are eligible to register for Kindergarten. Please have any families that you know of in the community to reach out to Sara so she can send the registration form to prepare for the 2022-2023 school year. Ideally we would like to have all children registered by March 31st.

Montshire Museum Trip

Thank you to ALL the parent volunteers who have volunteered to drive to the Montshire Museum on Friday, March 25th. We are so excited to share this special trip with the students. We will depart the school at 8:45 AM to arrive in time for us to participate in a whole group science lesson led by staff at the Montshire Museum. Students will then be grouped with each chaperone to be able to explore the museum and have lunch before we depart at 1:30 PM to be home in time for bus pick-up. The school will be covering the cost for this enrichment program.

Hero Project Returns to WES
We are grateful to the Weston Theater Company and the Little Yellow House Studio to be able to have the Hero Project return to WES!In this school residency for ages 4-10, students invent and embody their favorite hero/heroine by portraying them in original scenes, songs, monologues, and/or dances. Teaching artists, Theresa Kloos and Susan Haefner will provide students with a safe and joyful inventive process, guiding students in developing their singing, dancing, and acting skills while promoting listening, collaboration, and communication–essential skills that can translate to students’ academic and personal success. The focus is on exploring the creative process rather than focusing solely on a finished product. Participating schools will be invited to participate in a culminating event for friends and family, Play Date at the Playhouse, on Weston’s Village Green in Weston, VT on Saturday, June 4, 12-3 pm.

Stratton Foundation - ‘Shoes that Fit’

Spring is just around the corner, and the Stratton Foundation is delighted to once again be partnering with 'Shoes that Fit' to provide our WES children with the basic necessity of a pair of new sneakers and socks.

Thanks to the Stratton Foundation donors and a matching grant from the Alterra Mountain Company Community Foundation, they are proud to extend this opportunity to 600 children across southern Vermont.  Now more than ever, they know that families are struggling to put food on the table and gas in the car, and this is their way of making sure that our communities' most vulnerable children are cared for.
