Windham Elementary School Newsletter
October 1, 2021 Habits of Mind: “Safe, Responsible, Respectful, Ready to Learn” Weather Although we have been blessed with some warmer days here at the end of September, fall weather is upon us. It is really important that each student comes prepared to school with a warm coat, gloves and a hat. The weather can be damp and cool and please make sure they come prepared for playing and learning outside in that type of weather. Each student should also have an indoor pair of shoes here at school that they can change into after coming in from the wet playground. Thank you! Picture Day Date Change Picture day is WEDNESDAY, October 6th now! Geskus had to change our date from Friday to Wednesday for next week. Remember you can either pay for your pictures on-line or send in to school the picture form envelope with payment that I will be sure to hand to Geskus when they take your student’s pictures on Wednesday. Parent Teacher Conferences An email was sent Thursday evening about families' interest in having a PT Conference with your student’s teacher. Please reply back by Monday, October 4th so that a schedule can be drafted for the October 12th afternoon (or other day/time if requested). Brattleboro Museum Art Center The upper grades class took a trip to the Brattleboro Museum and Art Center this past Monday. Most students said they had never been to a museum, so this was a great first exposure on how to act in a museum, what to see in an exhibit, and how to talk about art in a group setting. All of the students picked out their favorite exhibit, and then had to explain why it was their favorite. The main exhibit was centered on the theme of Expedition. Students were also able to make their own drawings that showed their interpretation of what Expedition means to them. Meadows Bee Farm - Young Farmers Program The students jumped right into the farm chores on Thursday. Feeding the animals (chickens/turkeys/cows/sheep), supplying fresh water, collecting eggs and mucking out the cow stalls were on the agenda for this week's farm trip. Monarch Butterfly Update Eight more butterflies were released this week. We still have about 6 more still in their chrysalises. Fingers crossed that they will emerge before the weather gets too much colder! Back to School Night Grafton Nature Museum The first Grafton Nature Museum trip for the K-1 students will be happening THIS Friday, October 8th. The topic for this trip will focus on Autumn Learning Adventures. We will leave school at 9:30 AM via cars. Michael Pelton, Stormie Gordon and Ms. Sara/Ms. Sandy will be the three drivers and four chaperones for this trip. The school has plenty of the backless booster seats if you would like for us to use these. If you would rather have your student use their own seat, please either drop it off at the school Friday morning, or put it on the bus with your student and we will be sure to return it on the bus at the end of the day, Friday. Making sure your student’s name is somewhere on the seat would be helpful as well. Remember to have your students be prepared for whatever the weather throws at us. Covid-19 policy: Grafton Nature Museum is requiring that all visitors and program participants wear masks when we are indoors. For youth programming outdoors, they have been asking that all students and adults wear masks when social distancing can't be maintained. All of their current staff are fully vaccinated.
