Habits of Mind: “Safe, Responsible, Respectful, Ready to Learn”

Monarch Release!

On Friday last week we had our first three monarch butterflies emerge from their chrysalis! Then the remaining 7 butterflies were waiting for us on Tuesday morning when we arrived at school. Due to the rainy weather on Tuesday, we were unable to release them, so Ms. Sara took them home to release them at her house on our remote learning day. With the warmer days few and far between, we wanted to make sure that they were released sooner than later to give them the best chances of starting their journey south.

The students were able to identify the differences between a female butterfly and a male butterfly by noticing the thinner veins and black spots on the male vs no spots and thicker veins on the female. See photo sample below!

Snow Days

Since the onset of the Covid virus, schools around the country have found that teaching remotely, although certainly not ideal, can continue to keep the education of our students moving along. Therefore, it has been determined by the WCSU district that snow days will be REMOTE learning days this year and not days off from school.

Ms. Sara and Mr. PJ will reach out to families via emails in the morning on snow days with a check-in email that will provide information on what each of your students should work on during that day. In order for your student to be marked as present for attendance on the snow day, we will need to receive a response back to the email that is sent. No response back from the email, your student will be marked absent for the day.

Thanks again to Cindy & Bob Kehoe and Marie Hill Farm for the pumpkins for our Windham Elementary School students! Here are a few photos of our pumpkin creations that the students carved on Thursday this week.

Canvas Still Needed

As the students finish their outdoor classroom lean-to, we are in search of anyone that might have and would be interested in donating a canvas that we can add to the outside of the lean-to. The canvas that is being asked for is the type that teepees/tents use for weather proofing.

Picture Day Reminder

This Tuesday, October 20th, is picture day at Windham Elementary. If you need another form sent home on Friday or Monday to fill out and send back with your student on Tuesday, please let Sara know ASAP!

Warm Hands Warm Hearts

The Baptist Church in Chester is holding their annual Warm Hands, Warm Hearts event this weekend. A local business donated a lot of new clothing to this event- fleece pajamas for all ages and sizes, as well as hats and other assorted warm clothing.
