Habits of Mind: “Safe, Responsible, Respectful, Ready to Learn”

Today was the first Mighty Acorn trip for the Kindergarten and First Graders. Gail Wyman and Sara took the 6 students and we spent the morning exploring and talking about the fall season. The students collected materials as we hiked to the special area behind the Grafton Nature Museum where they then used those materials and made their own artistic creations or fairy houses for us all to look at. Our next trip will be November 1st!

Thank you to those that helped to stock our breakfast items again and for Jill Devine for stocking up our apple supply again. With the arrival of colder weather we would love to add Oatmeal to our menu for the students. Anyone out and about this weekend and grabs a large container of oats we will begin to add it into our morning rotation.

Please check your students back-packs for two notices that went home. One is from Jorda Daigneault, the school nurse, which talks about when you should keep your child home from school and the other is more information about the winter sports program and the transportation plans for each student to get to their selected activity.

Betsy Thomason visited Sally’s class on Wednesday afternoon and discussed what it means to be an author of a book and introduced everyone to the accordion book. Each student then spent time making their own accordion book on a subject of their choice. Betsy will be back next week and will discuss with Sally’s class another type of book that they will then be able to create.

Picture day is WEDNESDAY! Reminder you can either pay for your pictures on-line or send in to school the picture form envelope with payment that I will be sure to hand to Geskus when they take your student’s pictures on Wednesday.

Fall weather is upon us and it is really important that each student comes prepared to school and the farm with a warm coat, gloves and a hat. Thursday and Friday weather was damp and in the 40’s and many of the students did not come prepared for playing outside in that type of weather. Each student should also have an indoor pair of shoes here at school that they can change into after coming in from the wet playground. Thank you!

Green Mountain Orchards. Sara will need to RSVP our final numbers to the Orchard by Friday, October 11th, so that the Orchard can plan for our arrival on the 16th. Currently she has the following family members signed up to volunteer: Jan & Ralph Wyman, Rory Rosselot and Amy Carson. We are short a couple of drivers, so if you were planning on coming with us and have not let Sara know, please contact her via email or call the school at 874-4159 to let her know you will be coming and how many students you can take in your car.

Ticks, knowing that they come a bit more active this time of year, we have asked the students to not be playing in the maze behind the playground. Please be aware that even though the weather is getting colder, ticks continue to remain active and to make it a routine to check your family for ticks if you find yourselves in the woods or gardens this time of year.
