Habits of Mind: “Safe, Responsible, Respectful, Ready to Learn”

Geskus Picture Day

School picture day is October 20th. This week, your students brought home the picture order forms. Please fill out and send back to school at your earliest convenience.

Green Mountain Orchards

What a beautiful day to spend walking around the apple orchard at Green Mountain Orchards on Thursday. We enjoyed the orchard really to ourselves, and the apples were low enough on the trees that everyone was able to pick their own ½ peck of apples. We look forward to hearing what wonderful treats families make with the apples your students brought home! A special thank you to Kord Scott for taking some time out of his morning to help transport us all to and from the orchard. We are so grateful!

Monarch Butterflies

We have been lucky enough to start to witness the metamorphosis of the monarch butterfly right in our classroom! Last week our hungry monarch caterpillars were eating fresh milkweed leaves each day. On Friday, we noticed a few had climbed to the top of our netted enclosure and stayed there throughout the day. On Monday, to our delight we had one chrysalis and 5 other caterpillars hanging in the J-shapes prepping to start the process of making their chrysalis, or pupa stage! As of Thursday morning, we had 9 formed chrysalis,  and 2 more caterpillar’s still munching away on milkweed. We look forward to watching the chrysalises change in the next couple of weeks from their beautiful green with gold dots to fully translucent! At that time, we hope to witness at least one butterfly emerge while we are in school.

Sally Newton brings the gift of music to WES students

On Thursday afternoon, our beloved retired Windham elementary school teacher, Sally Newton, spent time with our students in the afternoon and brought the gift of music! Each student was introduced to the ukulele and we hope that we can begin lessons with the students and Sally a few times each month. Thank you Sally for bringing your wonderful gift of music to Windham!

September Date Reminders:

September 30th - Remote Learning Day

Remember students are only in school on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday’s for this month of September, so that a deep cleaning of the school can happen on Wednesdays. We will re-evaluate the schedule for the month of October.  Since it is just the start of the school year, and we are hoping that these remote Wednesday’s will only be temporary, we will not be touching base remotely with the students. Instead, they will be coming home with worksheets and/or books to work on during the day on Wednesday that will review material that has been taught in class. They should return the completed work on Thursday. If the work is not completed, they will be marked as being absent for that remote day.

Upcoming October Dates

October 5th - School board meeting via Zoom

October 6th - Fire Prevention Day with the Windham Volunteer Fire Department

October 12th - No School - Columbus Day

October 13th - 1/2 day - Parent-Teacher conferences

October 20th - School Picture Day at Windham with Geskus Pictures
